Antique silver Waltham pocket watch, 1889.
The watch has a seven jewel key-wound movement, Home Watch Co grade, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 4068358 dates it back to 1889. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover. An antique winding key is included (from a Blackpool jeweller).
The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Birmingham 1889 with the initials AB for Alfred Bedford, manager of Waltham UK.
The case originally had engine turned detail to the hinged case back but most of this has worn away over time. There is a little unevenness to the case back and minor marking, nothing too serious.
The glass lens is in lovely condition.
The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, John Wilson of Ossett. John Wilson was listed in the 1893 Kellys Directory (Yorkshire and West Riding) as being a watch and antique clock maker and also a cycle agent, based in Church Street, Ossett. The dial is in lovely condition and has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
