This is an antique surveyor's theodolite. An English, brass instrument in oak case by Troughton and Simms of London, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910.
Wonderfully complete and comprehensive surveyor's instrument set within a quality case
Displays a desirable aged patina with light weathering commensurate with age
Patinated brass shows appealing dark tonality, with contrasting knurled vernier adjustments
Large compass to the centre of the stand, with cardinal and intercardinal points
Modular construction, with four main pieces - Level, sight, compass base and stand
Finely annotated throughout with measuring marks
Engraved for a C.I. Elton upon the upstand with naive H.G.S to the scope wheel
