This is a fine antique tall Davenport. An English walnut, boxwood and rosewood bureau cabinet, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1860. A strikingly decorative and practical writing cabinet, showcasing elegant craftsmanship and rich tonality.
Superb inlaid example, adorned with boxwood stringing for decorative contrast
Distinctive tall form with upper cabinet set above a mirror and angled writing slope
Shaped demi-lune back rest sits proudly atop the whole, adding classical elegance
Faux drawer fronts to one flank balance the suite of four functional drawers opposite
Each drawer fascia finished with brass drop handles for traditional appeal
Lift-up writing surface inset with a tooled and embossed leather skiver, angled for comfort
Writing slope opens to reveal a fitted interior, with two small drawers and four arcaded dividers
Cabinet door fitted with a working lock — key present, securing the upper section
Fascia and apron decorated with ornate scroll and foliate inlay, in the finest Victorian taste
Raised upon a quartet of smooth-running brass castors for ease of placement
