Antique Wm Ehrhardt English Lever pocket watch

An antique William Ehrhardt English Lever pocket watch.
William Ehrhardt was born in Germany in 1831 and came to England in 1851, the year of the Great Exhibition. Just five years later, he set up a watch manufacturing company in Birmingham. The business was successful and by the early 1870s, he had produced some 200,000 watches.
Upon William Ehrhardt’s death in 1897, his two sons, William and Gustav, carried on with the business.
The company continued producing watches until the mid 1920s so was one of the last English manufacturers to survive.
This particular watch has a ¾ plate stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and has the mark for William Ehrhardt (which was registered on 4 February 1878). The front of the case is in good condition while the back has a few marks and some wear to the plate.
The glass lens is in good condition.
The dial is signed English Lever and it also has the name of the original retailer, Lewis Nuttall of Waterfoot. There are three or four faint hairline cracks radiating from the centre.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
