Art Deco Walnut Bedside Cabinet, 1920s Antique
An Art Deco bedside cabinet / nightstand with curved drawer and door, veneered in burr walnut with original Lucite handles.
This cabinet dates from the 1920s and is made of walnut with decorative burr walnut on the front. This has natural colour variations and a mottled pattern, caused by the grain in the burrs. The top is covered in walnut-effect melamine, useful as it's heat and water resistant. The handles are lucite (an early form of plastic), mimicking tortoiseshell and ivory, with brass trim. The cabinet has a drawer with cupboard underneath, with one fixed internal shelf.
Dimensions: Height 72cm, Width 41cm, Depth 36cm.
The cabinet is in very good vintage condition - the outside has been stripped back to bare wood and refinished with protective oil and wax. There are only very minor signs of wear to the outside on the inside there is some damage to the veneer, most notably a patch of missing veneer on the base (see last photograph).
