Art Nouveau 9ct Gold, Amethyst & Pearl Brooch 1911

This is a very pretty Art Nouveau 9ct gold brooch with a central amethyst and two small pearls, one on either side. It has the classic Art Nouveau fluid, organic styling. The central amethyst is clear and nicely cut and the two small pearls are well matched.
The brooch was made in 1911 by Male & Jones, a jewellers from Hylton Street, Birmingham, which was founded by Frederick Male in around 1900 and remained in business up until about the start of WW1. Although they were based in Birmingham, the brooch was assayed in Chester, making it a little more unusual.
The brooch is in very good condition with no dings, dents or scratches and has clearly been well looked after for over 100 years. It is 3.5cm across and 1.5cm from top to bottom. It weighs 1.9g.
The hallmarks on the reverse of the brooch are nice and clear and show on one swirl the sword & wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the "9" and "375" stamps for 9ct gold and the date letter "L" for 1911 with the M&J makers' mark for Male & Jones on the other swirl.
This is a very neat and elegant gold brooch in a classic Art Nouveau style that retains a timeless sophistication which makes it suitable to wear in any era.
