Arts & Crafts Gillows/Pugin Oak Wardrobe, 8' high

A very large Arts & Crafts Pugin style oak wardrobe or press cupboard possibly by Gillows of Lancaster and dating to circa 1890. It features super linenfold carvings and is of pegged construction. With a moulded cornice above a fielded panelled front it has two centre doors and one right side door above two long base drawers and standing on block feet. With ornate brass hinges and handles and the doors opening to reveal a double cupboard space to the left and two separate cupboard spaces to the right hand side. As yet there are no fittings for using this space but hanging rails or shelves could be added.
In good condition for age, the side on the right is darker than the left and there is a strip of timber missing from the bottom edge on the front left. We have left some screws visible above the drawers, these should really be pegged over to hide the screw tops once it is in it’s final position, the locks are stamped ‘R Cooper & Son’ but are possibly replacements on the doors. This wardrobe will be completely disassembled into flat sections for delivery and will need to be rebuilt in situ.
The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately
Width - 97 1/2in/8ft 1 1/2in (247.5cm)
Depth - 30 3/4in (78cm)
Height - 95in / 7ft 11in (241.5cm)
Internal depth - 22in (66cm)
This wardrobe completely disassembles into flat sections for moving and delivery. Please appreciate all our items are antique and as such may have minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits signs of old woodworm, and minor losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina. We cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee for UK purchases but cannot refund the return shipping cost.
