Arts and Crafts Birmingham Guild of Handicraft & W.A.S. Benson Lamp
An extremely rare Arts and Crafts Birmingham Guild of Handicraft (BGH) No. 77 copper & brass adjustable table lamp complete with W.A.S. Benson switch c1905.
A beautiful, skillfully and technically executed lamp utilising Arthur Dixon's architectural principles for the advent of modern electric lighting within the home made with finely engineered, intricate and well designed components.
Ingeniously the lamp is height adjustable and the reflector shade can be rotated to suit, making it a truly versatile lamp for paintings, sculptures or for dressing table use.
Provenance is from Madresfield Court in Malvern Worcestershire - an important country house featuring lighting from the Birmingham Guild and work by C.R. Ashbee.
Reference: Illustrated in the Birmingham Guild of Handicraft Electric Fittings catalogue as lamp number 77 held in the Victoria and Albert museum.
Size: 45cm high (height can be adjusted to suit) x 16cm base width.
Date: c. 1905
Condition: In superb condition retaining its original patina, fully complete with its integral W.A.S. Benson pill box toggle switch in full working order. Rewired with period style twisted black silk flex ready to install.
