Arts and Crafts gothic oak library bookcase

This is simply fantastic. The library bookcase was made bespoke by a carpenter, probably in the nineteen fifties or nineteen sixties. It is utter quality and the great pity is that he hasn't signed his work. I have the matching hall wardrobe which I am also offering for sale on a separate listing so do check this out.
This library bookcase is made in solid oak. You know it is quality when you see that the planks in the planked back are also made in solid oak. No expense has been spared in the construction. The library bookcase is in the Gothic /Arts and Crafts style. The gothic 'window' motif is hand carved as is the detailing down the sides. The lower door has inset panelling. The glazed doors have leaded astragals. The oak is limed. The style is deceptively simple but very sophisticated. Look at the quality heavy iron hinges and latch handle. The bookcase stands on a plinth base. The upper shelves are adjustable by height, the shelves in the lower section are fixed. Even here the attention to detail is wonderful. In the lower cupboard it would have been easy to affix one shelf but instead the carpenter has divided the space in to four.
The condition of this library bookcase is very good. The oak is well polished. The glass is perfect. The bookcase splits top and bottom for moving.
If you have a period house, particularly one furnished in oak or Arts and Crafts then this library bookcase will be a statement piece. It will look wonderful when filled with books and objet d'art. It offers a lot of storage.
The library bookcase is 37 inches wide and 81 inches high and 19 inches deep.
