This chair has all the hallmarks of coming from the Shropshire side of the border along the Welsh marches but I am informed they hail from Staffordshire. These chairs are notoriously difficult to date but with the splat and top rail on this chair you could easily imagine that it dated any time after 1760 but probably nearer 1800. Fashions arrived late in the sticks and lingered longer.
