Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898) was born on August 21, 1872 in Brighton, Sussex, England. With only minimal art training, Beardsley was commissioned to illustrate an edition of Malory's Le Morte Darthur. His highly erotic illustrations for Oscar Wilde's Salomé won him notoriety but lead to a loss of work after the Wilde scandal. Beardsley, who had contracted tuberculosis at age 6, died in 1898 at age 25.
Sir William Rothenstein (1872-1945)
Printmaker, teacher and writer. He was the son of a wool merchant and delighted in the grim landscape of his native Yorkshire, which was the subject of some early watercolours. His talent was recognized as early as 1891, when an exhibition of his work and that of Charles Conder at the Galerie Hadrien Thomas in Paris attracted the attention of many artists including Pissarro and Degas. After an inspiring four years he left Paris for Oxford where he made a number of portrait lithographs.
Rothenstein was also prolific as a painter. In the early 1900s his style gradually evolved towards brighter colours in response to Post-Impressionism, but he never incorporated its more advanced developments into his own art. He had a particular feeling for the landscapes of Gloucestershire, where he lived from 1912 to 1919.
During World War I Rothenstein was an Official War Artist to the British and Canadian armies on the Western Front, recording the devastation caused by war. Between 1920 and 1935 he served as Principal of the Royal College of Art, where his pupils included Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. Serious illness prevented him from drawing or painting in the mid 1920s. He had the pleasure of working as an artist almost to the end of his life. His son Michael Rothenstein (1908–93) was also an artist. PAYMENT OPTIONS

CONDITION AND PRESENTATION
In our description, if a picture is shown to be framed then the frame will be included with the sale of the picture. Unless stated otherwise all unframed watercolours, drawings and prints have been mounted onto acid-free conservation board using either Japanese hinging paper or reversible wheat starch past. Unframed and mounted pictures are then wrapped in clear polyester film to protect both the picture and the mount. All conservation work has been carried out by accredited conservators.

Great care and trouble has been taken to ensure that all details written for every picture are correct and the photos are of sufficient quality so that each item can be viewed in detail. If the purchaser can find a fault (by way of a photograph) as proof of damage in transit that is not present in our promotional photo i.e. a tear in the canvas, broken glass, broken frame, damage to surface of picture, then a full or part refund will be offered back to the purchaser depending on the extent of the damage. This will only apply within 24 hours of signing for the parcel.
If the parcel has arrived and appears to be damaged in some way please return the parcel to us (unopened) and we will refund the purchase price on receipt of the picture.
If the purchaser can prove with written evidence from three independent experts that our description was false or misleading in any way then a full refund will be offered back to the purchaser.
