We are delighted to offer this large glass Wall Sconce by the Murano company of Barovier & Toso and it was Ercole Barovier 1889-1974, who designed these sconces, which come in various shapes and sizes, primarily leaf shapes, but sometimes feathers. The Sconce has been created using the Rugiadoso technique, where minute pieces of glass (frits) are added to the reverse of the item giving a raised, frosted appearance, which diffuses the light. The central stem of the leaf has gold leaf inclusions and is finished with a pontil at the base. It dates to the mid 20th Century and is unsigned as most of them were, so we are only attributing it to Barovier & Toso.

The Sconce is held onto its bracket by a reeded brass circlet around the stem of the leaf. There is a triangular brass bracket with two knurled bolts which need to be undone so as to fix the inner bracket to the wall, and replaced once the sconce is in position.

The Sconce has been rewired in gold coloured braided flex and has a new brass lampholder. It is ready for installation by a qualified electrician.
