Billingsley Duke of Northumberland Soup Plate 1791

We have for sale a very rare and truly stunning Duke of Northumberland soup plate decorated by William Billingsley in 1791.
This 18th Century William Billingsley decorated soup plate consists of a small central Bouquet of three roses surrounded by a further 5 rose sprigs against a white ground surrounded by a broad light blue rim decorated with oeil de perdrix design in gold and white enamel with 3 gilt edged reserves each containing a rose sprig. Duesbury mark in puce to the reverse.
This William Billingsley plate was part of a set of 20 plates ordered by the then Duke of Northumberland in 1791 to complement an earlier Derby service decorated by Edward Withers ordered by the Duke of Northumberland in around 1779.
The plate is 10 inches in diameter and is in an excellent condition with only a small loss of gilt to the rim parallel to the lower end of the left-hand gilt edged reserve. The plate has obviously spent the majority of its life as a display plate.
