Large painting in all senses of the word. Impressive and imposing though physically not too large to hang in most homes, still a big picture though. We like this painting and this well known artist a great deal, pictures rarely on the market outside of big name galleries of Europe.

Lys Hansen is a distinguished Scottish Contemporary Artist. She is an invited artist at the Scottish Academy and has exhibited at Bornholms Kuntsmuseum, Denmark, Baishi Festival-China and also in France, Scotland and Germany. Currently she has pieces on show in galleries in Berlin, Denmark, France and Ireland. Hansen trained as a painter at the Edinburgh College of Art and studied Fine Art at Edinburgh University.

Lys is an expressive, figurative painter working in a European and international context. Her main concerns are the human condition and the complex inter-relationships of people. Her work - vivid and bursting with colour - is strongly expressive of the powerful and serious ideas it conveys. Highly prolific, Hansen is an influential and gifted artist with the ability to teach and inspire others. Recent painting projects and research have taken her to Berlin, to Bornholm in Denmark, to Ireland and to northern France. Hansen’s major themes are interlinked. So her expression of Family is cognate with her ideas and works on Identity her attention to Heritage links to her theme of Denmark her concerns with Conflict encompass experience of the 20th century seen through place. These in turn relate to the family relationships of the common man, and in her range of treatment of them, the artist draws us to the ecstatic, to the mundane and to the desperate. She leads us always by either our catharsis or our empathy to resolve the emotions we encounter.
