Boer War Tobacco Jar from Vickers, Sons & Maxim Case


Boer War Tobacco Jar from Vickers Cartridge Case
This miniature tobacco jar (or decorative pot) is made from the lower part of a Vickers 37mm shell case (QF 1 pounder pom-pom). The lid is made from the same kind of case.
Both the base and top of the pot are marked with VSM in a circle for Vickers, Sons & Maxim (active 1897-1911)and have been silver plated on the exterior to give it an elegant look.
Those casings were manufactured during the Boer War (1899-1902) and were treasured souvenirs during and after the war.
Dimensions: 4.3cm across,4.6cm high.
Weight: 188g.
Very good condition for age with some small pin prick imperfections to the silver plate on the lid (shown in photos).
