Brass & Jasperware Betjemann & Sons Inkwell - 1864

A top quality and unusual inkwell, mid-nineteenth century with the benefit of a design registration lozenge mark on the interior of the hinged lid.
This design lozenge allows us to date the inkwell to the day this design was registered which is 13th December 1864, above this is the signature of the maker, the well renowned Betjemann & Sons.
The base is a heavy rose coloured polished brass with thick rope mounts. The inkwell is made from Wedgwood Jasperware with classical scenes.
Once the lid is opened to reveal the removable ink chamber made from the original frosted glass with the polished brass rim engraved by the retailer " Vincent Goldsmith Weymouth".
A fabulous gem in excellent condition measuring 6 1/2" in diameter x 3 1/2" tall.
