Brass Hammerhead Ship’s Bridge Telegraph Siemens

The hammered solid brass engine order telegraph having a hammerhead shaped glass dial head reading “Outer Screw Only… Both Screws…. Inner Screw Only” with operator handle over, survives from the second quarter of the twentieth century.
The telegraph is in relatively good order, it could do with a clean and there is one crack to the dial glass but this aside the hefty body and lever mechanism are still sound.
Siemens Bros was one of the premier British telegraph makers, especially for the British Royal Navy during WW II. Hammerhead telegraphs themselves are essentially the heavy -duty telegraphs of the shipping world, used on large warships of the Royal Navy and Cammell Laird passenger ships.
Ship’s Telegraphs, along with wheels and compasses, are highly symbolic as the instruments, which once controlled a ship. It is for this reason we think objects like these only need a drop or two of imagination to transform them into conversation starters or statement pieces to fascinate and delight.
By a superb maker, this telegraph deserves to be polished and then simply admired.
