British 1856 Pattern Pioneers Sword

1 of 6
An 1856 pattern Victorian pioneers sword in good clean, well polished condition.
This was the British army’s successor to the 1820 model saw back sword. It could be used both as a weapon and a saw for the pioneers within the infantry regiments.
This example has a circa 570mm long blade of which 370mms are serrated, with a polished 130mm brass grip.
It looks to be unit marked (see photo) with an ‘M’ over ‘4WY’ possibly the West Yorkshire Regiment which was founded in 1685 and fought in most of Britains wars thereafter, including the Napoleonic, Crimean, Boer and both world wars.
There is no scabbard with this sword.
A well presented example that would be good to display
