A BULL WITH CATTLE RESTING IN A LANDSCAPE

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Thomas Sidney Cooper R. A. (1803-1902)
Born in Canterbury and became an outstanding animal painter,who was encouraged by Abraham Cooper (no relative) and by Sir Thomas Lawrence.
He entered the Royal Academy Schools and in 1827 he became a teacher in Brussels.
He became a good friend of the Belgian animal painter Verboeckhoven, who greatly influenced his style, as did the Dutch School of the 17th Century.
His studio sale at Christie's lasted three days April 12-15th, 1902.
In 1831 he settled in London, and first exhibited at the Suffolk Street Galleries in 1833.
He exhibited 48 pictures at the British Institute between 1833 and 1863.
'Landscape and Cattle', RA 1833 was the first of a series of 266 exhibits shown there until 1902, without a break.
This was a record for continuous exhibiting at the Academy. Sheep or cattle were his constant subjects.
Between 1848 and 1856 he painted the cattle in numerous landscapes by Frederick Lee and also the animals in landscapes by Thomas Creswick.
THE FINE EXAMPLE Offered is a chance to own a work of art painted by one of the most desirable and sought after animal artists of the nineteenth century.
FRAME
Presented in the original swept decorative titled frame,being finished in a rich gold leaf,and all in lovely order throughout with no damage seen.
CONDITION
The condition is all original and very good,with no overpainting and does not require any work.
