C.19th Minton “Merrion Japan” part dinner service
A late 19th. century Minton “Merrion Japan” pattern decorated in the Imari pallet part dinner service comprising:
1x Oval platter 15.25” x 12” (39cms x 31cms)
1x Oval platter 13” x 10.25” (33 x 26 cms)
6 x Soup plate 10” dia. x 1.5” deep (255 x 33mm)
10 x Dinner Plate lg 10” (25.5cms)
9 x Dinner plate med 9.25 (23mm)
9 x Side plate 8.25” (21 cms)
2 x Tureen with lids 13” x 7” x 6” (33 x 18 x 15 cms)
1 x Gravy jug 18” x 6” (20 x 15 cms)
1 x small oval plate 8” x 6” (20 x 15 cms)
1 x jug stand 7.5” x 5.5” (19 x 14 cms)

This part dinner service of Minton China features the bold and impressive colours of the Imari palette - a distinctive set of colours and decoration developed in Arita in the last two decades of the seventeenth century, characterized by its palette of under glaze cobalt blue and over glaze enamels of strong colours, such as iron red and gold. Beyond the glaze, decoration is equally distinctive. Imari designs usually show auspicious symbols and stylized pictorial scenes. Very light crazing for porcelain pieces in excess of 100 years old, which is a testament to Minton craftsmanship and quality of porcelain and its glazing techniques.

Note: There are some small chips and nibbles on some of the rims as would be expected in a service of this age and slight variations to the pattern.
