Cabinet made Oak B'case Exceptional quality 19thC
This oak bookcase from the 19th century is of exceptional quality and is from the workshops of Garnetts of Warrington.
It is heavy as the sections are good and solid, the oak is all quarter sawn and shows the medullary rays well. Fully re French polished and now in superb condition it is a bookcase not to be missed. The doors, all have the original glass, of which every piece is blessed with a bevel edge, and this is fitted into superbly shaped surrounds. The brass handles are all in place and as you could expect from a quality item like this are all in perfect useable condition. The cornice has an attractive carving and carved finials decorate the top of the sides which benefit from elegant reeded columns. The shelves are adjustable and have the original supporting clips. All in all a truely rare find.
Garnetts cabinet works were a well respected company producing high quality antique furniture and in some peoples opinion actually rivalled Gillows in that respect. They have not had the fame of course but we have seen items from both companies over the years and there is little difference in the workmanship if any. Robert Garnett was born in 1830 and died in the early 1900s. The factory is still in Warrington, although these days it is derelict and we understand is zoned for redevelopment. We have been in business for 40 years and are now coming up to retirement. We are in consequence looking to reduce our stock, Delivery can be arranged with a specialist carrier for around £70 to most areas. We now open by appointment, but we are often open Fridays and Saturdays, but cannot guarantee,( our sign will be out if passing ) it is worth ringing before coming.Tel 01565 874075
We look forward to seeing you or hearing from you.
