Carved Oak and Silver Plated Tea Caddy - Reg. 1885

A fabulous and most unusual Victorian tea caddy, made from Oak, carved into a naturalistic shape resembling a tree trunk with shaped feet.
The fittings are made from silver plate (EPNS - Electro-Pated Nickel Silver), the feet capped with silver plated mounts, with an English design registration number for the year 1885. There is another lozenge mounted to the underside of the wooden caddy with another design registration number, but again falling in the year 1885, presumably different registrations for the wood and metal mounts.
The hinged lid is engraved with an attractive Oak Leaf and Acorn design fitted with a lock and comes complete with a working key.
Excellent condition. The feet span 8", the lid with a diameter measuring 6 1/4" and standing 5 3/4" tall.
