Ceramic Bird & Butterfly Vase, Crown Ducal 1915-24


This is an attractive early 20th Century Hand Coloured Ceramic Vase. The vase is a slender urn shape on a round foot with a flared top rim. The body is decorated with colourful birds and foliage and a butterfly.
The vase was made by A.G. Richardson & Co as part of their Crown Ducal range and dates to between 1915 and 1924. The company was founded by Albert G. Richardson at the Gordon Pottery in Tunstall, Staffordshire in 1915. They are most famous for their association with Charlotte Rhead in the 1930s and carried on in business up until 1974.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks and just a slight amount of loss to the gold line aound the top rim. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The vase stands 17cm / 6.7ins high and is 8.2cm / 3.2ins across the top rim. It weighs 153.0g / 5.4oz.
The underside of the base has the original oval Crown Ducal mark above the letters A.G.R. & Co. Ltd, which was in use from 1915 to 1924.
