We are offering for sale this lovely oil on canvas by the artist CHARLES W. OSWALD, who has signed the painting C.W. Oswald in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a Highland landscape, with a herd of six shaggy, highland cattle watering at the edge of a loch, at sunset. The tall peak at the centre of the painting has been ringed pink by the rays of the setting sun. There is mist billowing over the ridge of mountains to the left of the painting and obscuring the mountains to the right.
This is one of a pair of paintings by this artist that we are currently listing.
CHARLES W. OSWALD was a Liverpool artist who, though very prolific, exhibited very little. He specialised in highland landscapes, rural scenes and painting featuring cattle and and working horses painted in oils. He lived at 258 Whitefield Road in Liverpool and did exhibit at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool in 1892. He is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists, Painters in the Northern Counties of England and Wales by Dennis Child and A Dictionary of Neglected Artists by Jeremy Wood.
