Here we have an exceptional Charles II Oak coffer c1680. As you can see the colour and patina are stunning. There is a two plank thick top with the most amazing colour. The top has a thumb moulded edge. There are three carved panels and a carved frieze both top and bottom. The original carvings have wonderful highlights and a softness to them. The chest is as you would expect of pegged mortice and tenon construction with the pegs raised from the surface. The ends of the chest are also paneled as is the back. The chest retains the original bat wing hinges which have been moved along at some time obviously from becoming loose at some stage. The chest sits on the original stile feet. Fortunately someone has reinforced the coffer some time ago with metal bands internally so it will be rock solid for many years to come. An exceptional coffer in great retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 57.5 inches wide 20 deep and 26.5 high.
