C.W.Oswald fl. 1890-1900 Oil Highland Cattle

We are offering for sale this lovely oil on canvas by the artist CHARLES W. OSWALD, who has signed the painting C.W. Oswald in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a Highland landscape, with a small herd of shaggy, highland cattle watering at the edge of a loch, in the foreground. There is a small patch of clear sky, through which the sun is illuminating the tops of the mountains at the back of the loch. There is mist billowing over the ridge of mountains to the right of the painting.

He specialised in highland landscapes, rural scenes and painting featuring cattle and and working horses painted in oils. He is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists, Painters in the Northern Counties of England and Wales by Dennis Child and A Dictionary of Neglected Artists by Jeremy Wood.
