Dachshund!! and Doulton Lambeth Lovers!!1885
In General
Dachshunds!!! For lovers of Doulton, antiques and Dachshunds!!!
A large, circular, antique Doulton Lambeth, high quality stoneware and brown salt glaze, three handled Harvest Tyg with a solid sterling silver hallmarked rim. The three large handles are delightfully formed in the shape of Dachshund Dogs and manufactured between 1850 - 1899. The main body depicts various raised decorative scenes including two period dressed locals enjoying conviviality in a tavern, hunting scenes and a lovely windmill and cottage with a lady leaning out of a window whilst a man arrives by donkey!
The solid sterling silver rim is hallmarked. The silver marks show the: maker HTB or Brockwell & Son, the Lion silver mark, the London assay office mark, the date letter K for the year 1885 and the Queen Victoria duty stamp.
Royal Doulton is a famous English ceramic manufacturer that was founded by John Doulton in 1815 in Vauxhall, London. The pottery later moved to Lambeth, London and became known as Doulton Lambeth. In 1882 it opened a factory in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, in the centre of the English Potteries. From 1901, the pottery was known as Royal Doulton when a royal warrant was given by the King - Edward VII.
A Tyg is a large English pottery drinking vessel with three or more handles dividing the rim into sections for several drinkers.
