Dresden Muller Volkstedt Figural Table Lamp / Shade

We are pleased to offer this very pretty and quite unusual large Dresden porcelain Table Lamp by Muller Vokstedt and new pleated shade in duck egg silk style material, which matches the dresses of the ladies. We say this is unusual because the vast majority of lamps by this maker are single figure lamps, often in pairs, while this is one of the larger groups of figures, mainly produced as ornaments. This lamp would look superb on a bedside table or on a lady's dressing table.
The lamp depicts a musical group, with one elegant lady, in powdered wig and elegant gown, playing a grand piano, with another, similarly attired and seated on a matching stool, playing the guitar.
The base of the lamp bears the blue mark of a crown over an M V, which denotes Muller Volkstedt, as well as, in black writing, Dresden des? or dec?, Germany and the number 16. As to whether the number 16 denotes 1916, or 16th, or design 16, we do not know or can find no reference to.
Anton Muller was working in the porcelain industry in Volkstedt in the late 19th century. He became highly regarded and in 1907 with Otto Hammer established in Volkstedt Porzellanmanufaktur Anton Müller. Anton Müller died in 1937. He was succeeded by his son Herman in the family business. Herman died during World War II and the factory was demolished in 1945 by allied bombing.
The factory wasn't rebuilt after WWII. Muller's descendents, Johanna Saar, Herman's niece, and her husband, Oskar, relocated to Ireland and started in 1962 the business under the name Irish Dresden. Irish Dresden continues the family tradition to this day.
The lamp has been rewired with gold coloured, braided fabric covered wire, in the antique style and has a safer switched lampholder, new on/off slider switch and new plug. The lampholder also has an on/off switch, but we would recomment using the slider switch, which is well away from the delicate parts of the figures. As with all electrical items, we suggest that it be checked by a qualified electrician before use.
Height to top of shade: 13" - 33cm
Diameter of shade: 8" - 20.35cm
Width of base: 9" - 22.85cm
Depth of base: 6" - 15.25cm
Condition: Excellent. There are no cracks, chips, crazing or damage. The shade is new.
