For sale we have a lovely original and signed oil painting by the Dutch artist P.C. Steenhouwer.

This beautifully executed oil painting on board depicts a Dutch street scene incorporating typical dutch town buildings, a church, people walking/shopping, a pony and trap and a boy using a pump. The painting is presented in a very high quality ornate gilt frame in the Rocco style. The reverse of the frame is felt covered and the felt has been cut away in two locations to reveal stamps applied to the board. Although difficult to read, these stamps presumably relate to the art exhibition from which the painting was originally bought.

P.C. Steenhouwer was well known for his oils in paintings of dutch scenes. He was born in 1896 and died in 1972.

The painting is crisp, bright and fine, there is a mark on the roof of the church but the brush strokes indicate that this was intended. The frame is in an excellent condition and the picture, excluding the frame measures 15" x 11" (38cm x 28cm).
