Early 18th Century Oak Bureau. Small size.
This is a really handsome early example of a small English provincial writing bureau.
It is made of oak and dates to around the time of George 1st, about 1725
Behind the sloped fall there is a carefully designed and well proportioned interior. It has 4 drawers and pigeon holes a central cupboard and a well with a sliding cover.
The chest itself stands on its original bracket feet and has 2 full and 2 half width drawers, of dovetailed construction and they all retain their original oak linings. The casing around the drawers is faced with 'double D' mouldings, as is edge of the fall and the top.
The handles are very old replacements and there are some old repairs - all sympathetic to the antiquity of the piece.
It is presented in very good showroom condition.
