Early 20th C. Kashmiri Papier Mache Lidded Box

We are offering for sale this attractive papier mache Kashmiri box with a painted floral design. The box has a separate, slightly domed, lid and a green painted interor. We would date this to the early 20th Century.
Kashmiri papier-mâché is a handicraft of Kashmir that was brought by Muslim saint Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani from Persia in the 14th century to Kashmir. It is based primarily on paper pulp, and is a richly decorated, colourful artifact generally in the form of vases, bowls, or cups (with and without metal rims), boxes, trays, bases of lamps, and many other small objects. These are made in homes, and workshops, in Srinagar, and other parts of the Kashmir Valley, and are marketed primarily within India, although there is a significant international market
Width: 9 1/4 inches - 23.5cm
Depth 6 inches - 15.2cm:
Height: 3 1/2 inches - 8.9cm
Condition: Very good for its age. There is some slight loss of paint, primarily around the sides, the lid being almost perfect.
