Early 20th C. Pyrex Dish in Silver Plate Holder

This is a smart and practical Early 20th Century Pyrex Casserole Dish in a fitted Silver Plate Holder dating to between 1921 and 1934. The oval Pyrex dish has scalloped handles on the body and a circular knob on the top of the lid. The silver plate holder has two curved handles, a double row of pierced decoration and stands on four bun feet.
The Pyrex dish can be used in the oven and then brought out and placed in the silver plate holder to take to the table. Pyrex heat resistant glass was launched in the USA in 1915. In 1921 James A Jobling acquired the license to make Pyrex in the UK and established a factory in Sunderland, which remained open until 2007. In 1934, the formula of the glass was changed to make it clearer, the earlier glass having had a faint yellow tinge, such as we have here.
The silver plate holder was made for Kemp Brothers of Bristol. Founded in 1889 and still going strong today, Kemp Brothers, now known just as Kemps, has a well earned reputation as a high quality jewellers and retail silversmiths.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, no dings or dents in the holder and no significant plate loss, just the overall superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dish and holder are 27.8cm / 10.9ins long, 16.8cm / 6.6ins wide and 16.8cm / 6.6ins high. Together the set weighs 1.82kg / 64.1oz.
The base of the Pyrex dish has the PYREX stamp in a circle with Made In England and the JP monogram for Jobling Pyrex that was used between 1921 and 1934. The underside of the silver plate holder is stamped KEMP BROTHERS, UNION ST, BRISTOL and STANDARD PLATE.
