Early Double Helix Sideboard by Gordon Russell

An early Gordon Russell double helix sideboard dateable by one printed stamp on the back, CC41
CC41, Controlled Commodity 1941 was a wartime directive. One part of this order concerned the manufacture of new antique furniture, it had to conform to quality and efficient use of the limited resources available. The CC41 scheme stayed in place until 1952.
This style of sideboard was designed in 1950 and exhibited at the 1951 Festival of Britain before going into full production in 1953. Having that all important CC41 logo means this sideboard can not be any later than 1952.
Mahogany framed with matching veneered top and sides. To the doors rich rosewood veneers with the iconic double helix design machined to expose the white birch underneath. Classic antique furniture craftsmanship of the period made in the Cotswold village of Broadway.
Recently re-finished with a matt lacquer this piece shows minimal evidence of its previous use and is good to go for another 70 years.
