A gorgeous early oak panel from the 1500s detailing a rather crude lion walking to the right.

Please see further information below -
A lion in a walking position, with the right forepaw raised, is known as a "lion passant".
French Term:
Early French heralds distinguished between a lion in a walking position and a lion in a standing or rearing position, calling the walking lion a "léopard".
English Usage:
While the term "leopard" for a lion in a walking position was once used in English heraldry, it has since fallen into disuse, and the term "lion passant" is now standard.
