A very charming 19th Century papier mache envelope or card box, beautifully decorated with gilt scrolls, flowers and exotic birds. The gently curved lid opens to reveal compartments with the original purple lining. The lock does not work and the key is included for decorative purposes. The condition of the box is reasonably good, there is some wear to the inside of the lid, this is not detrimental as can be seen from the photos. The exterior painting is good and is as can be expected of an item over 170 years old. A really lovely Victorian box to use or display.
