Edward Tucker Sr.1815-1898 Watercolour Harbour

We are pleased to offer for sale this large watercolour by the artist Edward Tucker Senior, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a small harbour. with a square ruined castle standing on a promontary jutting out into the sea. There are many sailing vessels or fishing boats , some pulled up on the shore and two figures hauling a net out of the sea. Unfortunately, he has not entitled the painting, so we do not know the location. If anyone recognises the coast or the castle, we would be most grateful if you could let us know.
This is a companion painting to the other we have listed.
EDWARD TUCKER Senior, who we was born in London circa 1815, was a landscape and coastal painter in watercolour. He lived in London, Bristol, Brighton, and Ambleside He was the father of Edward Tucker Junior (1848-1909), Arthur T. RBA 1864-1929, Frederick T. c. 1855-c.1935, Alfred R. T. 1849-1914 (Bishop of Uganda and Canon of Durham) and Hubert Coutts T. RI, who died in 1921. All five of the brothers being listed artists. His son Edward used the pseudonym Edward Arden to avoid confusion with his father. Edward Senior died in 1898.
Biographical details for this artist may be found in The Dictionary of British Artists, The Dictionary of Victorian Painters and the Dictionary of British Watercolour Artists by H. Mallalieu, although there is some confusion between the father and son.
We cannot give the details of his exhibitions, although he exhibited from 1849-1973, as due to the confusion with his son we do not know which exhibits were his.
A multitude of auction results achieved for works by both father and son and may be found at artprice.com, findartinfo.com, artnet.com and arcadja.com although their work is frequently put together just as Edward Tucker.
The painting is mounted with wash lines and is framed in a 1" gilt frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
