Edwardian 9ct Yellow Gold Opal Bar Brooch

This Edwardian bar brooch features a colourful central oval opal measuring 14.7 x 10. 6mm in a silver collet setting with millegrain edge.
The opal displays lovely predominately blue/green tonality, but has other rich colour flash - as can be seen by the images.
The setting sits upon a rose gold bar which tapers from 3 mm at the ends to 1.27mm at the point at which it joins the silver setting.
The reverse of the mount is stamped "9ct" and has a white metal pin secured by a split fork catch retaining fastener. The brooch also has a fixing point for a safety chain.
The opal would have been mined from the relatively new sources in Australia, which had started to produce the gem in the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
Total weight 3.8grams.
