Description:
This is an excellent quality antique Edwardian Art Nouveau influenced inlaid mahogany salon armchair, circa 1910, having been newly re-upholstered, and is in excellent condition. The armchair is constructed of solid mahogany, with satinwood string inlay and satinwood & ebony herringbone inlay to the back, arm supports, chair frame & legs. The armchair features a straight rectangular back, topped with a central pediment to the top rail, supported by straight back supports, as well as three shaped vertical supports, including a pierced central splat. The back boasts herringbone inlay to the perimeter and central splat, and string inlay to the pediment, in a circular design, and the other vertical splats. Fine shaped arms, raised on shaped string inlaid supports, secure the back to the seat frame. The seat frame features a serpentine design to the front, as well as further herringbone inlay. The armchair has been newly upholstered in a top-quality cream coloured geometric pattern cotton & silk structured material, with matching braiding, and finished with traditional hessian backing to the underside. The seat is firm – you do not sink into it – but is very comfortable to sit on. The chair is raised on string inlaid tapering feet terminating on square pad feet to the front, and sabre legs to the rear.
The armchair features a rich mahogany brown colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
The armchair would look superb in the living room or bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
