Edwardian Gilt Jardinere, Ethel Beard, R. Doulton

Here we have an exquisite Edwardian Stoneware Cauldron Jardinere in the Gilt Circle design. The cauldron shaped jardinere has a continuous pattern of gilt whorls all around and under the body with a band of white flowers on a brown ground around the neck. It stands on three feet and has three handles, a design Doulton referred to as a three handled camp kettle.
The jardinere was made in London at Doulton's famous Lambeth factory in 1904 and hand decorated by Ethel Beard, a long standing member of the exceptional team of artists that were employed there. Ethel was employed in the early 1890s and often worked with the great Eliza Simmance. She finally left the Lambeth factory in the late 1930s.
Condition is extremely good, with no chips or cracks and just the most minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The jardiniere is 13.5cm / 5.3ins high and 12.5cm / 4.9ins in diameter at its widest point. It weighs in at 994g / 35oz.
The inside base of the planter is stamped with the Royal Doulton mark and the date stamp 1904, amongst other marks. The hand incised E B mark for Ethel Beard is about halfway up one side.
Shipping in the UK is £8 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
