Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Bow-Fronted Wardrobe
This attractive bow-fronted double wardrobe is constructed from mostly solid mahogany and dates from c.1910. It has subtle string inlay to the front. The wardrobe has double bow-fronted doors that open to reveal a large hanging space with brass hooks to the sides and back and a metal hanging rail. Beneath the wardrobe section is a single large bow-fronted drawer which retains its original turned wooden handles. The drawer also retains its lock, but please note that no key is present. The right-hand wardrobe door is brass edged and retains its original lock with working key. The wardrobe is supported on swept bracket feet. Please note that apart from the fact that the top cornice can be removed the piece does not split down.
Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall a little faded. There is some heavier scuffing to the left-hand side. There are a few small areas of wood loss, including to the right-hand side. There are some signs of restoration and repair. There is some shrinkage to the doors, which only just catch closed. More modern magnetic catches have been fitted to the inside of the doors. The drawer handles have some wear, losses, and the one on the right-hand side has been re-glued at some point. The hanging rail inside wardrobe is brass-faced and the brass covering is loose in places. The door key is bent.
