Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Music Cabinet Glasgow

A handsome antique mahogany and inlaid Edwardian music cabinet dating from circa 1905 by Glasgow cabinet makers George Laird & Son. In beautifully figured mahogany with satinwood inlay to the drawer fronts, it comprises 6 drawers which drop down when opened to allow sheet music/papers to be stored. The drawers have their original attractive brass drop handles and it stands on shapely cabriole legs. A really stylish and useful item that would make a great music cabinet, collectors chest, hall unit or filing cabinet. With label to the back: “GEO. LAIRD & SON 10, ANN ST BRIDGETON GLASGOW”
George Laird & Son were Glasgow builders, joiners, cartwrights, cabinetmakers and upholsterers, based for over 50 years at Ann Street, Bridgeton. The street was later renamed ‘Laird Street’ after the family. Among the firm’s many projects were a Queen Anne-style dining suite, overmantel and fitted cabinets for the 1888 Glasgow International Exhibition.
