Edwardian Mahogany Inlaid Jardiniere Torchere

This is a good quality plant stand. It is Edwardian and dates to around 1910. The plant stand is made in mahogany with crisp boxwood inlay stringing. It is very smart. The Edwardians were obsessed with aspidistra plants, every drawing room had one, mainly because they lived so long. I would imagine that this was designed to take a potted aspidistra.
The plant stand is in good order. The barrel is true. It stands on fine shaped inlaid legs with a lower triform shelf which is again inlaid. The barrel and legs are in good order with no damage or worm. The mahogany is well polished. It is rather beautiful and brings height and elegance to any room, especially when you have a potted plant in it spilling leaves from the top.
The design of the jardinier lends itself to putting a bucket or lining inside the barrel and filling this with ice to cool a bottle of champagne ....but that may just be me!!! Good smart period decorators piece.
The plant stand is 39 inches high and the barrel is 12.5 inches in diameter.
