Edwardian Mahogany Leather-Topped Pedestal Desk
This antique pedestal desk dates from around 1910. It was made by the Nottingham firm of cabinet makers Smart & Brown Ltd. and retains its metal maker's plaque on the inside of the middle drawer. It is made from what we believe to be a mix of mahogany and oak with mahogany veneers. The desk has a green leather writing surface with a central drawer beneath. There are four graduated drawers at either side. The drawers retain their original brass art-nouveau style handles. The piece is supported on a plinth base with original hidden metal castors.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There is some knocking around the edges. There is some significant veneer loss and peeling to the back of the plinth base with some other areas of more modern veneer loss.
