Here we have a superb quality large Edwardian Silver Plate Six Slice Toast Rack. The toast rack has a beaded oblong base with rounded corners which rests on four ornate scroll feet. The dividers are kidney shaped and there is a large round beaded handle above a shield which is engraved with a crest of a lion holding a diamond between its paws.

The toast rack is made in Birmingham by the renowned firm of Elkington & Co and dates to 1907. Although it wasn't common practice, the major firms such as Elkington, Walker & Hall and Mappin & Webb used their own systems of date letters on their silver plate so it is possible to put a specific date on their plated pieces.

Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the most minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast rack is 17cm / 6.7ins long, 10.3cm / 4ins wide and stands 13.5cm / 5.3ins high. It weighs 398g / 14oz.

One end of the frame is marked with the E & Co and Elkington stamps for Elkington & Co and has the date letter V for 1907.
