Edwardian walnut wardrobe Maple & Co

An impressive, capacious, and super quality Edwardian walnut wardrobe by the esteemed maker ‘Maple & Co.’. It has an overhung cornice with cushion moulded frieze above four full length doors with shaped burr walnut veneered panels, opening to reveal hanging space and shoe drawers to the bottom of each section. The right hand door has a mirror to its reverse side. The ends are also veneered in attractively wild grained burr walnut, and the whole is raised on a plinth base with turned bun feet.
Available for sale separately is the matching dwarf linen press – see our item reference A9301.
Width 96” (244cm) Depth 26” (66cm) Height 83” (210cm)
Please note that while this item does break down into sections for ease of transport, the central box section is still quite large at 45” (114cm) x 22” (56cm) x 68” (173cm). It would be wise to check access prior to purchase.

About Maple & Co.
Maple & Co. were the pre-eminent antique furniture manufacturers and retailers of the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Their Tottenham Court Road premises in London was the largest furnishing store on the planet, manufacturing their own luxury furniture in a complex eventually so vast that by the 1880s it occupied an area where once stood 200 houses. They were timber importers, and exporters of furniture and fittings to all parts of the world.
Maples' market was the middle class and upwards. They furnished palaces all over the world, including Tsar Nicholas's Winter Palace, the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna, all the great hotels, and town and country homes. Prestigious British embassies were all furnished by Maples… even if it meant carrying the grand piano up the Khyber Pass on packhorses!
Condition and Details of Restoration
This wardrobe is in original untouched structural condition. The polish has been revived, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner. There are some minor shrinkage cracks and old marks underneath the polish as might be expected on an example of this age, as can be seen from the photographs. The plinth is currently in pieces and requires re-assembling with a new back rail, which we would undertake inclusive of the purchase price.
