A fine quality Victorian period mahogany cylinder desk by the prestigious firm of cabinet makers Edwards and Roberts of London. Of generous proportions and of excellent construction in a high grade of dense mahogany timber with the finest cuts of mahogany veneers. The cylinder opens to reveal a fully fitted interior with stationary compartments, drawers and an adjustable writing slope. Each desk pedestal has a bank of 3 drawers flanked by reeded pilasters and topped with carved capitols. This desk is finished to the rear so it could be free standing within a room if desired. Sympathetically refinished in our workshops to a very high standard, this impressive desk is ready to go straight into the home or office. It has a splendid colour and patina. Splits into 3 sections for ease of installation.

Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier antique furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp.
