Elegant Georgian inlaid mahogany hall side table

This is a beautifully elegant hall or side table. One of the reasons Georgian antique furniture has always remained popular is that it is timeless. The design isn't fussy or heavy with carving. It is simple and demure and relies on its appeal in subtle little details which are pure quality. This hall or side table will happily fit in to a modernist box or elegant period town house.
This hall or side table dates to around 1800 in the reign of George III. It is unusual in that it was designed as a hall or side table. A lot of inlaid side antique tables are in fact fold over tea tables or games tables that work well as a side table. This was intended as a side table.
The table is made in mahogany. It has a shaped apron. It stands on tapering legs and the legs are ebonised. The reason for ebonising the legs would have been to let the contrasting inlay stand out. The legs are lined in box wood stringing and just look at the coquillage! I love the paterae on both legs and top in the form of sea shells. It is beautiful!
The top is banded in tulip wood which has to be the most opulent wood there is. The shell motifs to each corner of the top are lovely especially in their green boarders.
This is a really good table. You no longer need masses of money to furnish a house in opulent style, you just need an eye for what is available.
Good elegant piece for a hall or principal room.
The hall table is 38.5 inches wide and 29 inches high and 20 inches deep.
