Elephant Stool By The Nupe Tribe Nigeria

Vintage Hand Carved Stool By The Nupe Tribe Nigeria, carved from one solid block of hardwood. With a carved top and standing on 10 legs, these tables are often called “elephant tables”. African tribal stools such as this one from the Nupe are an art form, with carefully designed patterns and graceful legs and are often presented by grooms to their brides or serve as symbols of prestige. Difficult to date, but probably late 20th century.

These make a great occasional/coffee table or stool.

Size: 13” tall x 17 1/4” diameter
