Elm George III Ball and Claw Footed Stool c. 1760

A really unusual and attractive mid 18th Century stool made in solid elm of a lovely colour and the four exaggerated cabriole legs with exuberant carving to the hips with deep ribbons tied with small open flower heads and terminating in well carved ball and claw feet.
The elm with a lovely lively grain to the seat rails (which are original also) and the whole stool with a beautiful rich natural colour and patina. Peg jointed throughout with no breaks or repairs.
Later corner brackets added beneath the seat pad during the 19th century to add support to the drop in seat pad which has been newly re-upholstered in a heavyweight William Morris & Co., ‘Bullrush and Walnut’ thick, soft and plush fabric from the Rouen Velvets Collection. This velvet has a beautiful pattern against a sage grey ground.
The stool dates from c. 1760 and is very sturdy, usable and comfortable.
Such a handsome and original 18th century period stool, well shaped and elaborately carved, made in rarely seen solid elm.
Dimensions are:
23 inches wide, 17.5 inches deep and 18 inches high.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
