Empire Revival Mahogany Tub Shaped Desk Chair

Empire revival mahogany tub shaped desk chair
We are pleased to be able to offer for sale, this superb desk chair made in fine mahogany, and with a antiqued red leather overstuffed seat.
This mahogany desk chair would have been made circa 1870, in a top French cabinet-makers using the best available timber.
The tub shape of this chair moulds itself into your back as you sit on it to work or read. This chair has so many lovely features and refinements, whether it is the scrolls on the arms, or the anthemion carving at the top of the sabre front legs, or the rolled top-rail, all make this a superb chair.
The overstuffed seat is covered in fine antiqued leather, that is secured to the frame using individual brass studs.
When this chair was first crafted, in a Paris workshop, France was in turmoil as it was in the throes of the Franco-Prussian war. Empress Eugenie flees to England in early September, 2 weeks later the siege of Paris begins. On a brighter note Nathaniel De Rothschild founder of the wine making branch of the Rothschild family is born.
